Bjarne Nielsen is following in the footsteps of his father and paternal grandfather. Like them, Bjarne left school to commence an apprenticeship as a cabinet-maker. He completed this Apprenticeship in February 2011 and is fast proving that he has the desire and creativity, as well as the necessary skills, to become a well-known Artisan in furniture making.
Bjarne says that he loves working with the Australian timbers (jarrah, marri, sheoak, Tasmanian blackwood), but is also enthusiastic about using other timbers as well. He believes that using a combination of timbers, gives a whole different dimension to the overall product. For example, American Rock Maple has a lovely grain and is quite a light coloured timber. This can be incorporated with Western Australian Jarrah, which has a deep rich grain and this combination creates a whole new look.
Recently Bjarne has been working on a variety of solid timber framed mirrors as well as solid single slabs of jarrah for Great Southern Gallery.
